Fingal: A state-of-the-art national cricket stadium is set to be developed in Fingal, with the goal of establishing Ireland as a premier destination for international cricket. The proposed facility—designed to host matches for the 2030 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup—is projected to generate €93 million in economic benefits over a five-year period.
Fingal County Council is expected to make a final decision in June on the planning application submitted by Cricket Ireland. If approved, the stadium will be located at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus in Abbotstown and form part of Ireland’s official bid to host matches during the tournament. A total of eight World Cup fixtures are proposed to be played at the new venue, with additional matches scheduled for Malahide and Stormont.
The stadium will feature a permanent seating capacity of 4,240, expandable to 12,000 for major events. It will include a central cricket bowl, a high-performance centre (HPC), and integrated infrastructure aligned with the broader National Sports Campus.
Cricket Ireland—currently without a dedicated headquarters—plans to establish its first permanent home within this new development. The complex will include indoor training facilities, administration offices, and year-round cricketing amenities under the banner of “The Home of Irish Sports”.
According to an economic analysis by EY, ticket sales alone are expected to contribute €29 million between 2026 and 2030. The total cost of hosting the 2030 T20 World Cup in Ireland is estimated at $39.9 million. The construction phase will employ approximately 200 workers, while tournament operations are expected to support 1,555 jobs, with an additional 460 positions sustained annually from 2026 to 2030.
The planning submission also notes that Cricket Ireland currently incurs approximately €1.25 million in costs to stage events and manage operations from its temporary base in Malahide. The proposed development aims to centralise and streamline these functions, marking a transformative milestone for Irish cricket.
