PM Narendra Modi will participate in India-EU Leaders’ Meeting today

The India-EU Leaders’ Meeting, hosted by Prime Minister of Portugal, Mr. António Costa, will take place today virtually, May 8, virtually.

At the invitation of Mr. Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the meeting of the European Council as a special invitee.

PM Modi will participate in the meeting along with the Heads of State or Government of all 27 EU member states, an unprecedented opportunity to discuss with all EU leaders.

The meeting will concentrate on COVID-19 pandemic and healthcare cooperation, fostering sustainable and inclusive growth, strengthening the India-EU economic partnership, and regional and global issues of mutual interest.

It is hoped that today’s meeting will build on the momentum that India and the EU have been developing since the 15th India-EU Summit in July 2020.

Portugal currently holds the Presidency of the European Union Council.

This is the second time this year that the European Union and the leaders of the 27 member states will meet in this format. They had previously met with the US President in March of this year.
