DUBLIN: The Minister for Health is under intense pressure to address the issue of severe overcrowding in hospitals. It has also been suggested that if something had been done early and in the long run, the current problems could have been avoided entirely.
In the current situation, if the nurses go on strike to find a solution, the country will face unimaginable difficulties. The government will be unable to escape its responsibilities.

Around 11,000 health-care workers are absent from work for a variety of reasons. The HSE confirmed this as well. The number of patients arriving at the ED is at an all-time high. Two percent of the nurses were affected by COVID, two percent by flu, and 4.5 percent were absent for other reasons.

INMO demands that immediate measures be taken to prevent hospital overcrowding. This week alone, 931 patients are waiting in trolleys for treatment. Nurses and other health workers are “dying” on the job due to a staff shortage.
The minister stated that this was due to unforeseen circumstances.
But, according to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly, the current situation is unpredictable. It was always busy, but it was not like the current situation. Thousands of health workers are absent from work due to illness. The government desires a stable staffing pattern. The minister said that the flu wave happened earlier than in other EU countries.
INMO stated that it was informed in advance.
This argument was rejected by INMO. The organisation emphasises that it has previously warned that if meaningful action is not taken, there will be a major crisis. The organisation demands that there be safe staffing. President Karen McGowan said that safe care for patients is becoming impossible due to communicable diseases.
