Dublin: Gardaí have discovered human remains in North Dublin believed to be those of three-year-old Daniel Arubos, who went missing four years ago. The remains were located on the Portrane Road in Donabate as part of an ongoing investigation.
The state pathologist and a forensic anthropologist attended the scene, while the Garda Technical Bureau carried out a detailed forensic examination. A post-mortem will be conducted by a specialist forensic paediatric pathologist to establish the cause of death. DNA analysis will also be undertaken to confirm the identity of the remains.
Preliminary information suggests the child may have died of natural causes. However, Gardaí and Tusla continue to investigate thoroughly to rule out any suspicion. Detectives, who have been pursuing leads for several weeks, remain confident that the remains are those of Daniel, who disappeared from The Gallery Apartments in Donabate in July 2019. Had he been alive, Daniel would now be seven years old.
The case came to light when the Department of Social Protection flagged irregularities while processing a child benefit application, prompting further checks that revealed Daniel was missing.
Commissioner: “There will be no rush to judgment”
Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said the investigation was being carried out carefully, with all necessary resources deployed. He urged anyone with information, particularly those who lived at The Gallery Apartments in Donabate since July 2019, to contact investigators.
Children’s Affairs Minister Norma Foley expressed her sorrow following the discovery, describing it as a deeply distressing development.
