DUBLIN: Reports that Ireland’s Deputy Prime Minister Leo Varadkar has shifted to a different house after receiving several death threats.
Gardai confirmed that the Tánaiste had received multiple threats in recent weeks. Varadkar was placed under the protection of the Special Detective Unit (SDU) following the incident, but Varadkar and his gay partner, Dr. Matthew Barrett, were advised by Garda to leave their home.
Former Taoiseach Varadkar is also expected to become the Ireland’s next Taoiseach in December 2022, according to coalition agreements.
Two years ago, Leo Varadkar was accused of leaking a secret Government document to a friend. Gardai had revealed that a criminal case was being investigated in connection with the incident.
A controversy also erupted last year when a young woman unexpectedly poured tea on Varadkar’s face during an interview in a Dublin park.
According to reports, Varadkar does not have the support of the party as before.
It is alleged that Garda’s 24-hour protection was a ploy by some to thwart Varadkar’s moves.
