ISTANBUL – Turkey has issued a travel warning to its citizens who plan to visit European countries, citing Islamophobia and anti-Turkish demonstrations.
The warning comes after an anti-Islamic activist in Sweden burned a Quran last weekend, and pro-Kurdish groups protested Turkey. Across Europe, hundreds of people are taking to the streets with anti-Muslim immigration stances.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry advised citizens to exercise caution and avoid demonstration sites.
It advised them to report any hate or racist attacks to local authorities, and Turkey strongly condemned anti-Quran protests in Denmark’s capital Copenhagen on Friday, following the burning of a Quran in Stockholm, Sweden.
After rioters tore pages from the Quran in The Hague, Netherlands, Turkey summoned the Dutch ambassador in protest.
Turkey is opposed to the NATO membership of Sweden and Finland. It has been announced that Turkey will not attend the crucial meeting in Brussels.
Even before the Turkish travel warning, the Nordic countries had separately issued updated Turkey travel guidelines. Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden have advised their citizens visiting Turkey to avoid large crowds and exercise caution.
The Swedish Embassy in Ankara has also been closed. There was an attack on Swedish citizens who arrived at the Swedish embassy in Ankara, Turkey’s capital.

Allegations of illegal Muslim immigration to other European countries via Turkey are intensifying. There is a claim that Turkey is assisting thousands of people to migrate to other countries after they arrive in Turkey. It is also claimed in the context of this allegation that organised migration occurs through countries such as Morocco, Algeria, and Libya.
