Dublin: A large number of Indian nurses participated in health care interviews held in Ireland by leading Australian health care groups. Hundreds of Indian nurses attended yesterday’s interviews at RDS.
There are three main reasons given by nurses, including Indian nurses, for moving to Ireland. One group is those who don’t like Ireland’s winter and cold weather. The majority of those who leave Ireland because they can’t handle the workload and rush are now Filipino nurses.
However, a growing number of Australians are seeking urban amenities rather than moving to the countryside because they cannot afford the high cost of living in cities.
Nurses, midwives, and other healthcare workers are being sought by 17 hospitals in New South Wales, Victoria, and Western Australia. Previously, the Victorian state government organised a billboard campaign in Dublin and Cork to fill vacancies in Australia’s healthcare sector.
This is followed by a recruitment drive. According to Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas, the Victorian government will hire 17,000 nurses and midwives in August. This group’s basic salary for nurses and midwives ranges from €46,500 to €59,400.
Private hospitals are already vying for health-care workers in Ireland, appealing to them with enticing promises. Meanwhile, Australian organisations are interested in Ireland’s medical workers. Thousands of nurses and midwives in Australia walked off the job in September, for the third time this year, as part of the fight for safer staffing patterns, according to the Nurses and Midwives Association (NSW).
In Ireland, the majority of people are foreigners.
At the same time, statistics show that foreign nurses make up the vast majority of those employed in Ireland. 4,937 new nurses arrived between June 2021 and May 2022. 3,021 of them are from outside the EU. 361 people are from EU countries.
188 of them are Australian nurses, according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. India accounts for 2,364 of them.
Other figures for new registrations include Philippines-391, UK-250 and Zimbabwe-132. 1,555 new Irish nurses were also registered.
