DUBLIN: Met Eireann forecast extreme cold daytime temperatures for today and tomorrow. Sharp or severe frosts and icy patches are also expected at night.
Meanwhile, Met Eireann had issued a Status Yellow snow and ice warning to six counties yesterday as snow was expected up to 5 cm. The warning was issued to counties such as Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wicklow, Meath and Monaghan. The warning, which took effect from 6pm yesterday, will last until 6pm today.
Dublin City Council announced yesterday that it is closely monitoring the weather and is well prepared to deal with any adverse conditions. The council said it would ensure no snow and ice on 300km of major roads across the city.
“Our salt barns are full to capacity. Our gritting lorries, snowploughs and operational staff from our Roads’ Division are on standby and ready to be called into action.”
“In the event of heavy snow, arrangements are in place so that additional resources can be called upon, such as staff, machinery and equipment, to assist with the clearance of snow from footpaths.
“Our primary focus is the safety of road users and pedestrians on our roads, streets and footpaths and we will have a 24 hour presence on our road network, to ensure operational continuity throughout any prolonged period of poor weather, the council said.
The council urged all motorists in the county to be vigilant in the coming days as road conditions could be dangerous due to potential snow and ice.
Meanwhile, the Council has stated that it will keep the public updated on any developments through social media, media and elected representatives. The council also said that people can be updated on roads that are being gritted by logging onto its website at www.dublincity.ie.
