Dublin: Opposition leader Mary Lou McDonald and several Sinn Féin activists were reportedly threatened and assaulted in Dublin during the presidential election campaign, prompting an official investigation by An Garda Síochána.
The incident occurred on North Strand Street in Dublin 1, where a man was seen verbally abusing McDonald and her team. A video circulating online shows the suspect using foul and threatening language, including threats of physical violence. The altercation appeared to involve a group of voters carrying Palestinian flags.
According to Sinn Féin, the confrontation took place shortly after McDonald arrived to meet her local canvassing team. Despite the attack, McDonald continued with her campaign schedule. One woman injured at the scene was taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital for medical treatment.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that officers are investigating an assault involving two women on North Strand Road. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses or anyone with information or video footage to contact Store Street Garda Station at 01 666 8000.
