A Jeju Air flight, 7C2216, crashed while attempting to land at Muan Airport in South Korea on Sunday, December 29, 2024. The flight, travelling from Bangkok, Thailand, was carrying 175 passengers and six crew members. The plane veered off the runway and collided with a fence before being engulfed in flames. As of now, 94 deaths have been confirmed, with 179 feared killed.
The crash follows a recent tragedy involving an Azerbaijan Airlines plane near Kazakhstan, which resulted in 38 fatalities. In the case of the Jeju Air flight, no abnormalities were reported during its departure from Bangkok. Thai airport officials confirmed there were no issues such as bird strikes or runway obstacles at the time of takeoff.
At Muan Airport, families of the victims gathered around acting President Choi Sang-mok, demanding real-time updates. Choi expressed his condolences but was unable to provide further information, prompting emotional pleas from the families.
