SSE Airtricity has announced a price increase that will raise the average household’s energy costs by around 9% from October.
The typical electricity bill will increase by 8.9%, adding about €171.55 a year, while gas bills will rise by 9.3%, or approximately €138.70 annually. Dual-fuel customers are expected to pay around €311.48 more per year, representing a 9.1% increase.
The company will also raise its electricity standing charge by 6.1%, while the gas standing charge will remain unchanged.
SSE Airtricity attributed the increases to higher network charges and continued volatility in global energy markets, saying wholesale gas prices have more than doubled over the past year.
The announcement follows recent price increases from other Irish energy suppliers, including Pinergy, Flogas, Yuno Energy and Electric Ireland.
