DUBLIN: Met Eireann warns that heavy snowfall will continue in the coming days, even as snow is sticking in parts of Ireland.
Met Eireann issued a snow and ice warning yesterday for Dublin, Kildare, Louth, Wexford, Wicklow, Westmeath, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Waterford. There were scattered hail and snow showers in these ten counties.
The warning was issued until 9pm on Wednesday, but Met Eireann said the situation would worsen on Thursday (Today). Status yellow snow and ice warning have been issued for Munster, Connacht and Leinster.
“A band of sleet and snow spreading northeastwards during Thursday giving snow accumulations of up to 5cm in some areas (higher over the mountains), but transitioning to rain in the west and south on Thursday night,” Met Eireann said.
The warning will last from 8 am today until 8 am Friday. The forecast is that it will be quite breezy today. Extreme levels of wind, rain, sleet and snow are expected in 23 counties in the three provinces of Munster, Connacht and Leinster. This can lead to poor visibility and dangerous conditions.
Sleet and snow in the southwest steadily moved northeast across Munster, Connacht and south Leinster this morning. Snow will turn to rain or sleet in southern and southwestern coastal areas.
Snow and sleet are expected in Munster, Connacht and Leinster tonight. At the same time, snow will be largely confined to Leinster overnight, with rain heading towards the south coast as temperatures rise.
