Stripe will employ 1,000 people in Ireland over the next five years

DUBLIN: Stripe, an online payment company, will employ 1,000 people in Ireland. Founded in 2010 by Irish brothers Patrick and John Collison, Stripe is expected to create new jobs over the next five years as part of its expansion into European operations.

Stripe had recently invested $600 million in Dublin office expansion, global payments and investments in the treasury network.

The company has indicated that jobs in Dublin will be in various teams, including engineering. Stripe already employs about 300 people in Dublin. The company is headquartered in Ireland. It has 3,000 offices worldwide, operating in 43 countries.

Dublin is Stripe’s fastest growing international office. The company’s payment technologies are used by a number of Irish companies, including Intercom, LetsGetChecked and DoneDeal.

The company is considered by its users as big names like Amazon, Google, Facebook, Delivero, Salesforce and Shopify. “This is fantastic news on the jobs front and the start of a really welcome partnership between the Irish state and Stripe,” said Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar.

“We’re investing a ton more in Europe this year, particularly in Ireland,” said John Collison, President and co-founder of Stripe. “Ireland is now a leading tech capital of Europe, with great talent and companies emerging all the time, we’re keen to help cement that position,” he added.

The Ireland Strategic Investment Fund managed by the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA), has invested $50 million in the new fund. Allianz X, Axa, Baillie Gifford, Fidelity Management and Sequoia Capital also participated in the fundraiser.

The San Francisco-based firm does not release revenue data accurately. However, the company says it processes hundreds of billions of dollars worth of transactions for millions of companies each year.

The company recently added Mark Carney, the former Governor of the Bank of England, to its board.
