Dublin: SuperValu has recalled specific batches of Le Paysan Smoked Salmon Pate and Le Paysan Smoked Mackerel Pâté after sulphur dioxide was found to be present but not declared on the ingredients label. Milk was also not clearly highlighted as an allergen.
The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) warned that the products may pose a health risk to people allergic to or intolerant of sulphur dioxide and/or milk, and advised consumers not to eat the affected batches.
Sulphur dioxide and sulphites are recognised allergens and can trigger adverse reactions, particularly in individuals with asthma. The FSAI noted that food labelling regulations require these substances to be clearly listed when present above specified levels.
