Taoiseach supports England in Euro 2020 final

DUBLIN: Taoiseach Micheál Martin has revealed that he will be cheering for England in the European Championships final.

England will face Italy in the European Championships final on Sunday night (July 11, 8 pm) at Wembley Stadium in London.

Gareth Southgate’s men advanced to the finals after defeating Denmark 2-1 in the semi-finals, while Roberto Mancini’s men qualified by beating Spain in shootouts.

“I wish our neighbours the very best of success,” the Taoiseach said at a press conference on Thursday.

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has refused to say who he will support in the finals. Finance Minister Simon Coveney revealed his support for England, wishing Harry Cane and his team luck ahead of their match against Denmark.

Mr. Martin said he really enjoyed the semifinal match between England and Denmark. “I thought it was an excellent game last evening, I really enjoyed it.”

“I wish England every success, and I’ll be supporting them,” he added.
