Tunisia defeat France but the holders finish top of Group D:
Tunisia stunned World Cup champions France 1-0 at the Education City Stadium on Wednesday, thanks to a VAR ruling that disallowed Antoine Griezmann’s last-minute strike.
The stunning result, however, was insufficient for Tunisia to join the reigning champions in the final 16 of the tournament in Qatar, as Australia defeated Denmark 1-0 in the other Group D encounter.
Tunisia’s solitary goal came in the 58th minute when Wahbi Khazri guided home a winner among a swarm of defenders for only their third victory in six World Cup competitions, but they were still eliminated.
Argentina breathe easy, reach knock-outs despite Messi’s missed penalty.
Argentina progressed to the World Cup’s last 16 with a 2-0 victory against Poland on Wednesday, despite Lionel Messi missing a penalty. Poland finished second, but Mexico’s 2-1 win against Saudi Arabia in the group’s other game meant Czeslaw Michniewicz’s team advanced only on goal difference.
