The air travel crisis continues, with thousands stranded at airports across Europe

Dublin: Travel across Ireland and Europe is still being disrupted due to a technical glitch in UK air traffic control.

Flight delays and cancellations are expected to continue. Thousands of passengers were stranded at various airports in Europe yesterday due to a technical fault with UK air traffic control.

The problem was identified and initially resolved yesterday afternoon, but there were problems again.

Airport authorities and airlines advise passengers planning to travel to check the status of their flights with their airlines before arriving at the airport.

Thousands of passengers were stranded at airports across Ireland and Europe, including members of Team Ireland who were in Budapest for the World Athletics Championships.

Most Irish flights avoid UK airspace. Flights from Ireland have not had much trouble since AirNav Ireland, which provides air traffic management services, began working directly with French airspace controllers. The system was built with a section of airspace directly connecting Irish and French airspace.

Many passengers were able to rebook their flights, while others had to cancel their vacations.

Airlines, including Aer Lingus, apologised to passengers last night on social media for the ‘unavoidable cancellations and delays,’ blaming the crisis on circumstances beyond their control.

The Dublin Airport Authority has announced that car park customers who are delayed returning to Dublin Airport due to ATC issues in the UK will not be charged any additional parking fees.
