Dublin: The water supply in the Dublin area may be disrupted as a result of the installation of a new pipeline. North Dublin’s water supply will be interrupted, affecting approximately three and a half million people. The water will be cut off because a new pipeline will be installed in place of the old one. Although a water supply system has been installed, Irish Water has advised that care should be taken to store and use as much water as possible. This water should only be used for drinking after boiling.
Irish Water has announced that the water supply will be interrupted from 1 a.m. to 11 a.m. It is expected that it will take at least ten hours for the water supply to be restored throughout the city. Irish Water stated that the current difficulties and inconveniences are only temporary in order to reap long-term benefits.
Water will be cut off in Swords, Santry, Malahide, Portmarnock, Kinsella, Ballyboughal, Lissenhall, Donabate, Portrane, Turvey, Loughshinny, Palmerstown (Fingal), Rush, Lusk, as well as M1 service stations and surrounding areas, according to Irish Water.
In conjunction with Fingal County Council, arrangements have been made for water in containers. Containers are available at Tesco Shopping Center in Rush, Seaview Park car park in Portrane, St Colmcille’s GAA Club in Swords and Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club.
North County Dublin was supplied with water through a single concrete pipeline laid in 1960. Water is transported from Ballycoolin Reservoir to Swords in the amount of 60 million litres. This pipeline became insufficient as demand increased. This was followed by a 28 million euro parallel project that could provide 90 million litres of drinking water per day.
