DUBLIN: On New Year’s Day, a second €200 electricity credit payment will be made to households struggling with high living costs. This relief will benefit more than 2.2 million Irish households.
In the 2023 budget, the government announced three credit payments of €200 each to assist families facing a cost-of-living crisis. This is the second of these payments. Before Christmas, the first €200 credit was applied to bills. The third payment will come in the March/April bill. The government will spend more than €1.2 billion on the €600 electric credit. The scheme is part of a €4.1 billion cost-of-living package announced in the 2023 budget.
As the energy crisis and rising prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have made life difficult, the government has devised plans to help families and businesses. Earlier this year, a credit of 200 euros for electricity was granted.
As You Go customers will see these on their January and February bills, depending on their individual billing.
Special arrangements have been made to make electricity credits available to pre-pay and pay-as-you-go customers.
The Residential Tenancies Board (RTB) has directed that this benefit be extended to tenants who pay landlords for electricity.
