Dublin: Transport and Environment Minister and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan has announced that 950,000 electric vehicles will be on the road in the next eight years. More charging stations will be installed across the country as part of this. Next month, a new €100 million strategy will be unveiled.
The minister said that the plans to deal with climate change are not limited to switching to electric vehicles. The minister also stated that public transportation will be encouraged. Bus services will be improved. The government wants to make cycling and walking more accessible and safe.
The minister also stated that by the end of this decade, a revised climate action plan aimed at reducing carbon emissions by half will be published. “Electric vehicles are fantastic.” The cost of travel is also very low. Ryan said that the revised climate action plan will include the Moneypoint power station, which will switch from coal to oil. “There will also be projects such as generating electricity from the wind,” said the minister.
