The Indian population in Ireland has grown by 170%; Surprisingly, Keralites are the majority, followed closely by Hindi speakers

Dublin: According to new census figures, Ireland’s population has increased by 8%. Based on the census held in April last year, the population of the country on census night was 5,149,139.

This is an 8% increase over April 2016 figures.

Ireland has a total of 56,642 Indians. This list excludes Indians born in Ireland. In the last five years, 35,673 more Indians have arrived in Ireland than at the time of the last census. This represents a 170 percent increase in Ireland’s Indian population.

In April of last year, there were 24,674 Malayalam speakers in Ireland. There is an increase of 14,032 people compared to the last census. The census records show that 3,453 children born in Ireland speak Malayalam fluently.

According to the new census, 13,902 people in Ireland regularly speak Hindi at home. The figures indicate that 902 children born in Ireland can speak Hindi fluently.

In Ireland, there are 5,502 Tamil speakers. Other Indian languages on the census list are Punjabi (2,537) and Telugu (3,125).

The average age of the Irish population has increased from 37.4 in 2016 to 38.8 in 2022, up from 36.1 in 2011.

The number of people holding Irish citizenship in addition to another citizenship rose to 170,597, a 63% increase on 2016.

In comparison to 2016, the proportion of people reporting poor health fell from 87% to 83% of the population.

The figures indicate that approximately one-third of the population (747,961 people) continues to work from home. This is the census-day data.

The proportion of Roman Catholics has fallen from 79% in 2016 to 69% in 2022. At the same time, the number of Hindus in the country has increased by 150%. Hindus have increased in number from 13,729 to 33,043. So far, 25% of Hindus have obtained Irish citizenship.

The country’s Muslim population has increased by only 32 percent since the last census.
