Dublin: The government has chosen not to oppose the Labour Party’s motion in the Dail demanding a salary increase for healthcare workers.
Employees at organisations known as “Section 39 organisations” provide services to the HSE.
Grants are given to HSE-affiliated institutions. However, its employees are not classified as public sector workers. As a result, health professionals are frequently denied benefits such as paid maternity leave, annual vacation, and pension plans.
They lack a centralised system for collective bargaining. That is why the Labour Party is introducing a resolution requesting that all health employees in the country be included in the new salary agreement.
Salary justice, salary restoration, and salary increase are ongoing campaigns by the INMO, FORSA, and SIPTU.
At the same time, the health minister says that the government has no authority to increase the salary in this category. In the country, there are 32,000 health-care institutions. According to the Minister, this industry is extremely diversified and complex. As a result, the Minister of Health stated that Labour would not oppose the motion.
