Sinking of the Titanic: The Titanic set sail from Southampton, England, on its maiden journey to New York City on April 11, 1912. Before crossing the Atlantic, the ship stopped in Cherbourg, France, and Queenstown, Ireland (today known as Cobh).

The Titanic’s visit to Queenstown was brief, since the ship left at 1:30 p.m. on April 11th. It was the final time the passengers, crew, and Queenstown locals would see the magnificent ship.
On April 15th, 1912, the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic. Only 44 of the 123 people on board the ship in Queenstown survived the crash.
Today, the town of Cobh still holds a deep connection to the Titanic. The Cobh Heritage Centre, housed in the old White Star Line Ticket Office, presents the tale of the Titanic’s final stop in Ireland and the lives of those who boarded the ship there.

In reality, the Cork town is home to the Titanic Experience Cobh, a one-of-a-kind tourist experience housed in the historic White Star Line Building, from which the Titanic’s final passengers departed. Today, visitors may take a guided tour and retrace the steps of the Titanic’s passengers. The museum includes authentic passenger narratives and eyewitness tales of the tragedy.
