Dublin: Three software engineers living in Newbridge, Co Kildare, have pleaded guilty to stealing more than €3,500 worth of goods from Ikea’s Ballymun store on three occasions in January.
Detective Garda Anthony Galbraith told Dublin District Court that the defendants—Monnisha Nimma (27), Sai Radhika Kavuri (32), and Sri Ravikiran Garimella (34)—removed goods valued at €1,350 and €852 in separate incidents. A Garda search later recovered most of the stolen property, worth €3,526, in saleable condition. He noted the trio were cooperative, made full admissions, and showed remorse.
Court Proceedings
Judge Patricia Cronin highlighted that the accused had no prior convictions and had never come to Garda attention. Their solicitor, Carol Slattery, described them as educated, ambitious, and employed full-time as software engineers, but acknowledged their actions as “foolishness of the highest order”.
Ikea has agreed to participate in a restorative justice programme, which could allow the first-time offenders to avoid criminal convictions if deemed suitable. Judge Cronin adjourned the case until July for probation reports.
