DUBLIN: TikTok, a video-sharing app that allows users to create and share, is to open a new cyber security centre in Ireland. The company has announced that Dublin will be its first location as part of its global network of regional fusion centres.
The opening of the Dublin centre is part of the firm’s efforts to stay ahead of new generation security threats. More than 50 new jobs in security, privacy, and policy are expected to be created by the new centre.
The company hopes that the Irish centre will be important in assisting the platform in identifying, evaluating, and eliminating threats to the platform and its users.
TikTok’s plan for regional fusion centres around the world is to assist the firm in responding to security incidents in real time, 24 hours a day.
According to TikTok’s chief security officer, Roland Cloutier, the centres are a new phase of the company’s operations to ensure security is “built-in from the start”.
“When people use TikTok, we know they’re entrusting us with their data, and we take our duty to protect that data very seriously,” he said.
“Our global security organisation operates a ‘follow the sun’ approach so that people on teams around the world are always focused on protecting people’s information – and ensuring that our next-generation entertainment platform can anticipate and stay ahead of next-generation security threats,” Mr Cloutier added.
TikTok already has a number of other centres in Ireland, including a trust and safety hub and a transparency and accountability centre.
