Today’s weather: Wind and heavy rain in Ireland

Dublin: Wind and heavy rain are expected to continue in Dublin today. The Met has issued a yellow alert in nine counties. Observers believe that this warning will remain in effect till Monday. This morning, very strong winds were felt in the Dublin area.

Strong winds are also expected in nine counties in the south, west, and north-west until this afternoon, according to the Met Office. Wind gusts of up to 110 km/h are predicted. Wind gusts of 50 to 65 km/h are expected in counties Clare, Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Donegal, Galway, Mayo, Leitrim, and Sligo. The Met warns that strong south-easterly winds are also likely along the Atlantic coast, followed by widespread showers and thunderstorms. Munster, Connacht, and Donegal are also on yellow alert.

Sunday’s torrential rain and wind caused flooding in Cork and ongoing travel disruption in Dublin, so gardai are urging motorists to avoid unnecessary travel and exercise caution. Gardai said many areas of Cork were impassable due to flooding, with the N27 South City Link Road closed, including the city link road.

The N40 South City Ring Road and Cork Center Park Road are both flooded. Flooding has been reported on Harbourview Road, Pentos Quay, Sundays Well, Grange Road, and Ship Street in Douglas, among other places.

After the river overflowed its banks, the Kilcully Bridge was flooded. Glanmire’s Crestfield Shopping Center was also flooded. Due to the inclement weather, 1,212 homes in Middleton were without power. Power outages also hit several homes in Kilkenny.
