Tolls on Ireland are set to increase

The only route that will not be affected by price hikes is the Dublin Port Tunnel.
Tolls on the M50 for cars and buses will rise by 20 cents or 30 cents, depending on the payment method. Tag users will pay €2.10 to €2.30 more, while those captured on video will pay €2.70 to €2.90 more. The unregistered vehicle toll will rise by 30 cents, from €3.20 to €3.50.

The cost of using the M50 for goods vehicles will also rise by between 20 cents and 60 cents every time they travel, depending on the size of the vehicle and the payment method.

According to Transport Infrastructure Ireland, there have been no price changes for cars that use the tag payment method in the previous ten years.

Using a car on the M4 will rise by 20 cents, from €3.00 to €3.20. A car using the other seven toll highways (M1, M3, M7/M8, M8, N6, N25WF, N18-LT) will be charged an additional ten cents.

Prices have risen in response to the current rate of inflation, which increased by 8.6 percent between August 2021 and August 2022.

The tolls cannot be raised above this level.

Eight of the ten toll roadways are operated using a public-private partnership model, with the exception of the M50 and Dublin Port Tunnel, which are administered directly on behalf of Transport Infrastructure Ireland.

According to Transport Infrastructure Ireland, the extra money is used to pay for motorway maintenance, toll collection and operations, and the upkeep of the national road network.
