Tragic Collision in Westmeath Claims Life of Six-Year-Old Girl, Succumbs to Injuries

Tragically, a six-year-old girl has succumbed to injuries sustained in a collision in Westmeath earlier this month. The incident, a single-vehicle road traffic collision, took place shortly before 4 p.m. on February 8th on the M6 eastbound.

The young girl, a passenger in the vehicle, sustained severe injuries and, despite medical efforts, passed away at Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street. Fortunately, the two other occupants of the vehicle—a man in his 40s and a nine-year-old boy—escaped with minor injuries.

Gardaí in Mullingar are renewing their appeal for witnesses to the incident. They are specifically seeking any individuals who may have camera footage, including dash-cam recordings, from the M6 between Junction 3 and Junction 4 at the time of the collision. Providing such footage to the investigating Gardaí could be invaluable in their efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

Anyone with pertinent information is urged to contact Mullingar Garda Station at 044 938 4000, reach out to the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or contact any Garda station with relevant details.
