Tragic Loss Confirmed: “Irish Woman Tragically Killed in Hamas Attack in Israel”

Dublin: The tragic death of Kim Damti, a 22-year-old Irish-Israeli woman who had been attending an outdoor music festival on the first day of Hamas’ occupation of Israel near the Gaza border, has been officially confirmed.

Kim Damti, a resident of the Israeli town of Gedera but with strong ties to Ireland as a frequent summer visitor, was among hundreds who had gone missing during the attack by Hamas militants.

President Michael D. Higgins extended his heartfelt condolences to Ms. Damti’s grieving family on Wednesday evening.

President Higgins condemned the loss of Ms. Damti’s life, emphasising that the deliberate targeting of civilians represented a flagrant violation of fundamental international law. He described the circumstances surrounding her passing as truly appalling.

Ms. Damti’s sister, Laura Damti, expressed her deep sorrow in a Facebook post, remembering her sister as “our angel” and “like a flower.”

Pat Cooper, Ms. Damti’s aunt from Portlaoise, confirmed her tragic passing in a statement to the media, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support the family had received during this difficult period.

He reflected on the vibrant and energetic spirit that Kim had exhibited in the media’s images, highlighting the bright future that had been ahead of her as a 22-year-old.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin conveyed the government’s condolences to Kim’s family in Ireland and Israel, emphasising that the entire nation stood in solidarity with them. Ms. Damti, one of five siblings, will be laid to rest in Gedera on Thursday.

The unfortunate incident took place during an all-night outdoor music festival near the Gaza border, which was tragically struck by rockets on Saturday morning. Subsequently, the festival came under attack by Hamas gunmen, resulting in the loss of over 200 lives.

Hamas militants from Gaza breached the border fence, resulting in significant casualties, with 1,200 deaths and 2,700 injuries, ultimately leading to Israel’s declaration of war on the Gaza-based militant group.

Palestinian authorities reported 1,100 fatalities and 5,339 injuries in the Gaza Strip due to the ongoing conflict, further underscoring the ongoing and deeply distressing nature of the situation.
