Trump Signals Possible End to Ukraine War Following Talks with Putin and Zelensky

Washington, D.C.: U.S. President Donald Trump has suggested that the ongoing war in Ukraine could soon come to an end, revealing that Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to commence peace negotiations immediately. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed that he had a productive conversation with Trump regarding potential pathways to resolving the conflict.

Trump-Putin Dialogue Marks Diplomatic Shift

The latest breakthrough in U.S.-Russia relations follows a high-profile prisoner exchange earlier this week. Moscow released American teacher Mark Fogel, while Washington, in return, freed Russian cryptocurrency entrepreneur Alexander Vinnik. This exchange set the stage for a lengthy phone discussion between Trump and Putin, which lasted approximately 90 minutes.

According to sources, the conversation was significant, with both leaders agreeing that the time had come for a renewed diplomatic effort.

Trump Lauds Putin, Signals Diplomatic Engagement

Following the call, Trump took to Truth Social to praise the Russian president, describing their discussion as long and highly productive. He confirmed that both leaders had agreed to visit each other’s countries, with Putin extending an invitation for Trump to visit Moscow.

Trump further stated that he was committed to preventing further loss of life, emphasising the urgency of reaching a long-term resolution to the conflict.

To spearhead peace efforts, Trump has assigned a high-level U.S. delegation, including:

  • Secretary of State Marco Rubio
  • CIA Director John Ratcliffe
  • National Security Adviser Michael Waltz
  • Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff

Zelensky Acknowledges “Meaningful” Talks with Trump

In a social media statement, President Zelensky confirmed a substantial conversation with Trump, during which they explored potential avenues for ending Russia’s three-year occupation of Ukrainian territories. Zelensky stated that both parties expressed a strong commitment to working together toward achieving peace.

Zelensky also revealed that Trump had briefed him on his discussion with Putin, adding that he believes U.S. diplomatic and strategic influence could play a decisive role in pressuring Russia toward a peaceful resolution.

Ukraine Insists on a Just Peace

Andriy Yermak, the head of Ukraine’s Presidential Office, reiterated that Zelensky remains firm on Ukraine’s independence, territorial integrity, and sovereignty. Speaking on Ukrainian television, Yermak stressed that any peace deal must uphold Ukraine’s fundamental rights.

Diplomatic efforts are expected to accelerate in the coming days, with senior Ukrainian officials set to meet U.S. representatives at the upcoming Munich Security Conference. A face-to-face meeting between Trump and Zelensky is also anticipated in the near future as negotiations gain momentum.
