Dublin: A meeting was held in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, the previous night to support the town’s 260 Indian families, following recent attacks targeting Indian nationals in Dublin and elsewhere.
Fianna Fáil TD Tony McCormack said the gathering aimed to reassure the community, noting their vital role in the Midland Regional Hospital, where many work in healthcare. “Our service could not operate without them,” he said.

Local nurse Grace shared her fears that negative news on social media is causing distress for her parents in India, while nurse manager Stalin Kaishore stressed that incidents are isolated but warned against “false narratives” portraying immigrants as responsible for economic pressures.
Attendees said they felt reassured by the show of solidarity. Himanshu Gupta thanked organisers for opening communication channels, adding it eased uncertainty about safety.
The Indian community had cancelled plans for an India Day celebration next month due to safety concerns but said they may now reconsider in light of the support shown.
