Uisce Éireann Launches Free Text Alert Service for Water Supply Updates to 1.6 Million Households

Dublin: Uisce Éireann has introduced a free text alert service to provide water supply updates to 1.6 million households, marking the first time all customers can receive notifications for their area. This service, previously available only to vulnerable customers and businesses, will inform users of local supply interruptions lasting over four hours, planned and unplanned outages, and boil water notices.

The launch follows an Ipsos B&A survey showing that three-quarters of Uisce Éireann customers and half of businesses desire regular updates on water services. Customers can sign up by entering their Eircode and mobile number on the Uisce Éireann website. (https://www.water.ie/).

Geoffrey Bourke, Head of Customer Operations, emphasised that the service, alongside the existing online outage portal, will provide timely and accurate information, ensuring customers are well-informed about water supply issues. In 2023, Uisce Éireann managed over 12,000 outages, with 90% resolved within 24 hours, and interacted with customers over two million times via various channels.

Bourke expressed confidence that this new service would enhance awareness of Uisce Éireann’s efforts to maintain a clean, safe, and reliable water supply across Ireland.
