Unum to expand Carlow workforce

Unum, an US based insurance company, has decided to expand its technology centre of excellence in Carlow.

This will create 50 more job opportunities . The company which came to the town in 2008, had 150 workers in Carlow.

With the recent expansion of its workspace at Shamrock Plaza, they could employ more than 200 people locally. Its expansion plans are supported by IDA Ireland. 

Unum said it is accepting applications for open positions in a variety of disciplines across the software development lifecycle.

Padraig O’Neill, Unum Ireland’s managing director and vice president, pointed out the positive effect of Technology Centre in Carlow in their business.

The software engineering roles in AWS, Salesforce, Data Science & Analytics are instrumental in expediting the digital transformation.

The CEO of IDA Ireland, Martin Shanahan, said that Unum has been a key client for IDA Ireland in the South East region since it established there 12 years ago. 

He also added that Unum is the largest tech employer in Carlow and a key partner to the Carlow Institute of Technology, which provide job opportunities to its graduates.

Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar said that Unum has been a real success story for Carlow since its establishment. 

Mr Varadkar said the company has developed strong ties with the community in that time, particularly with Carlow Institute of Technology.
