DUBLIN: The online registration for the COVID-19 vaccination is expected to begin next week for those aged 30 to 39.
A cabinet meeting on Wednesday evaluated the country’s vaccination progress. The HSE expects to administer 250,000-280,000 vaccine doses this week.
The HSE said pharmacies will soon begin assisting the vaccination programme by administering the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) and Pfizer vaccines.
About 30,000 pregnant women (between 14 and 36 weeks) have been offered vaccinations in the coming weeks. The vaccine is also being offered to ‘socially vulnerable’ groups such as Travellers and Roma communities through GPs or vaccination centres.
Vaccine supply shortages continue to hamper the vaccination program. According to the HSE, J&J deliveries this week were lower than even the “worst-case” scenario, as they received just 12,000, when the estimated delivery was 14,000.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health in Ireland confirmed 259 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. There are 76 coronavirus patients in the hospital, with 27 in the intensive care unit.
