VMware has told the government it will try to minimise job cuts in Co. Cork

VMware has communicated its commitment to exploring alternatives and minimising the impact of over 360 potential job cuts at its operations in Co. Cork. The cloud computing company recently proposed 364 redundancies, primarily affecting the majority of its 1,000 roles situated in Ballincollig.

Following VMware’s recent acquisition by US semiconductor firm Broadcom, discussions surrounding the proposed job losses took place in the Dáil. Taoiseach Leo Varadkar noted that Broadcom had initiated a consultation process with staff regarding the proposed redundancies, and the IDA (Industrial Development Authority) would collaborate with affected employees.

The potential job losses were characterised by People Before Profit-Solidarity TD for Cork North-Central. Mick Barry as a devastating blow to Ballincollig, emphasizing the local impact of such developments. The situation reflects the ongoing challenges faced by companies and their employees amid changes in ownership and organisational restructuring.
