Wexford Weather Alert: Persistent Rainfall and Flood Concerns

The Weather Centre in Wexford has issued a sombre forecast, predicting continuous rainfall in Ireland until Thursday. To address the impending weather challenges, a yellow rain warning has been officially announced for counties Kerry, Louth, and Monaghan on Tuesday. Neighbouring Northern Ireland, represented by Antrim, Down, and Armagh, is under the scrutiny of the UK Met Office, which has issued an orange rain alert for Tuesday.

As the week progresses, concerns loom over the potential impact of Storm Ciaran, set to unleash heavy rain and powerful winds across Ireland on Wednesday and Thursday. Among the regions most vulnerable to these adverse conditions are Munster and Leinster, which encompass Dublin.

Unfortunately, the aftermath of the relentless rain was felt in Wexford, where heavy flooding marred various areas, including Wexford town. Numerous homes found themselves submerged, and the situation was especially dire in the Haven Estate on Rosslare Strand, with water levels rising up to three feet by yesterday evening. Regrettably, flooding incidents have become more prevalent in South Wexford in recent years.

In response to the escalating crisis, heroic rescuers have undertaken the evacuation of numerous residents from their homes. The affected estate primarily consists of holiday homes, underscoring the urgency of the situation and the need for collective efforts to mitigate the impact of these adverse weather conditions.
