Dublin: Health Minister Stephen Donnelly Voices Concern Over Public Neglecting Mask Use Amidst Flu Outbreak

As the flu continues to spread throughout the country, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has expressed his apprehension about people disregarding safety measures, particularly the use of masks in public settings.

Minister Donnelly emphasised the importance of not forsaking mask-wearing, especially in healthcare facilities, crowded indoor areas, and public transportation. He underscored the ongoing significance of adhering to COVID-19 precautions, even though the government has no immediate plans to mandate mask-wearing. Minister Donnelly stressed the need for vigilance during the ongoing COVID-19 phase and announced the forthcoming launch of an awareness campaign to encourage the public to prioritise safety in the absence of compulsory guidelines. Furthermore, he revealed that signage indicating the necessity of mask-wearing will be prominently displayed on buses, trains, and other public transportation.

Minister Donnelly also disclosed that the Health Service Executive (HSE) has prepared a winter plan that anticipates the impact of the flu, RSV, and other respiratory illnesses.
