Country will pay its last respects today to Solson Savier, a Kerala nurse who died in Ireland

WEXFORD: The funeral service of Solson Savier, a native of Malappuram, Kerala, who died in Benclody, Co Wexford, will take place today (Wednesday, January 20) at 9 am in the Parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima, near the St. Thomas Pastoral Center in Rialto, the headquarters of the Syro Malabar Church in Dublin.

The body was taken yeaterday from Wexford General Hospital to Lannon’s Funeral Home in Benclody.

The body will be flown to Dublin at 8 am today. The services will begin at 9 am after arriving at the Parish of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary of Fatima Church.

Funeral services will be broadcast live. According to the government guidelines, a maximum of ten people can only attend the services. The body will then be buried in Newlands Cross Crematorium, Ballymount Road, Dublin, according to COVID standards.

Solson Savier Payyappilly (34), son of the late Savier Payyappilly, a native of Perinthalmanna Thuvvur, Malappuram, Kerala, died at Wexford General Hospital on Sunday evening.

Mother: Mary Savier Payyappillil. His wife, Bincy Solson, is a member of the Menachery family.

The couple has a son; Simeon Solson (3 years old). Solson’s only brother: Remil Savier Payyappillil.

Solson, who is also the youngest son, was his parents’ favourite. He last came home two years ago after learning of her father’s death. He was scheduled to travel home last April, but was unable to travel due to COVID-19 restrictions in Ireland.

Solson was told he would return home in February, said his only brother Remil Savier. “Not just ours, he was a ‘heart’ of people in Thuvvur and all the places where he was involved. Can’t think of he left us,” Remil told the ‘Irish Samachar’.

The demise of the ‘frontline hero’ made headlines in all the media in Ireland.

Thousands of people on social media remembered the gentleman who was always friendly and smiling.

The INMO, the national organisation of Irish nurses, and the hospitals where Solson worked, have extended their condolences to the bereaved families.

Funeral services will be led by the Syro-Malabar Church of Ireland. Vicars of various churches in Ireland, the clergy, and other denominations, as well as the general public, offered their condolences.

Bishop Stephen Chirappanath, Apostolic Visitator of the Syro-Malabar Church in Europe, also expressed his condolences to Bincy’s family.
