Ireland and UK to Hold Annual Summits on Trade and Cooperation, Announces UK Prime Minister During Dublin Visit

Dublin: Ireland and the UK will hold annual summits on trade and cooperation, beginning in March 2025, according to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. During his first official visit to Dublin, Starmer met with Taoiseach Simon Harris, describing the visit as a “reset” of relations between the two countries. The discussions focused on areas such as justice, climate, education, and a trade relationship worth €120 billion annually.

Starmer emphasised the need for “ambitious and bold” reforms in regulation and trade barriers. Both leaders expressed commitment to strengthening ties and fostering cooperation, particularly in light of their shared responsibility for the Northern Ireland peace process.

Starmer also addressed global issues, including Ukraine and the Middle East conflicts, during the visit. During his stay in Dublin, a rally protesting UK arms exports to Israel took place.

The visit concluded with a light-hearted exchange of football jerseys ahead of the Republic of Ireland vs. England Nations League match, underscoring the leaders’ focus on both diplomacy and friendly competition.
