Met Éireann warns of heavy snowfall in Ireland again; Country will experience freezing cold this weekend

DUBLIN: The Irish Meteorological Service warns that there will be heavy snowfall in the country again in the coming days and freezing winds will bring Baltic conditions across the country!

Following the heavy snowfall, various parts of the country will be covered in a blanket of snow next week, with “cold northerly air-flow” expected on Friday causing severe frosts in the country, Met Éireann said.

Last week, a yellow snow alert was issued nationwide for widespread snowfall, but there was snow only in the Donegal region during those days. The children of Ireland waiting for the snow, therefore, are under the preconceived notion that they should trust Met Éireann only when the snow falls.

Met Eireann warns that Friday night could bring ice and frost in sheltered spots, while Saturday and Sunday will get colder again. The minimum temperature will be minus two degrees. Cold winds and heavy snowfall are expected on Sunday. Meanwhile, Met Éireann predicts widespread snowfall in the eastern counties and Leinster.

Weekend weather forecast

  • Friday

Friday is going to experience a mix of sunny spells and showers as cold northerly air-flow is likely. The maximum temperature is three to six degrees. Meanwhile, there is a possibility of rain and hail on Friday night. The minimum temperature ranges from zero to three degrees.

  • Saturday

Saturday will be cold weather. However, there are chances for sunny spells and some showers in some areas. Heavy rain is likely along the east coast. Temperatures range from five to eight degrees.

Scattered showers and hail are likely in eastern Leinster and northern Ulster during the night. Due to this, it will be very cold in various parts of the country on Saturday night. The minimum temperature is minus two to three degrees.

  • Sunday

Sunday will be a snowy and cold day. There will be light showers in the northern Ulster and eastern Leinster. The temperature ranges from two to five degrees. However, the northeast winds will cause severe cold. The nights will be very cold. There will also be light snowfall in the eastern counties. The minimum temperature will be minus three to zero degrees.
