Pope criticised people flying abroad to escape lockdown

Vatican City: Pope Francis has criticised people who fly abroad during the holidays to escape the Covid lockdowns.

The pope accused that such people were indulging in merriment by forgetting the suffering people and that this was not right.

“They didn’t think about those who were staying at home, of the economic problems of many people who have been hit hard by the lockdown, of the sick people. [They thought] only about going on holiday and having fun,” the Pope said.

The pope said in a video from the library of the Vatican’s Apostolic Palace that he was “deeply saddened” by the actions of the people and did not know what the New Year has kept for us.
