Widespread snowfall in Dublin; Ice warning across the country

DUBLIN: Snowfall is widespread in the capital for the first time this year. It has been snowing in various parts of the city since this morning.

Although the whole country has been on ice warning since yesterday evening, the city’s snowfall has arrived this morning.

The capital is expected to drop to minus -7C by tomorrow night.

The temperature is expected to drop sharply in Connacht, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, Longford and Clare. The UK Met Office has issued similar warnings to Antrim, Armagh, Down and Tyrone.

Met Éireann had predicted that the temperature would drop to -2 to -5 degrees overnight. There is a possibility of icy patches and heavy snowfall in various parts of the country.

According to meteorologists, there will be a slight change in the weather by Saturday and Ireland will recover from minus temperature in the following days.

Met Éireann warned earlier about temperatures “well below normal” as a result of ‘Sudden Stratospheric Warming’ (SSW). The forecasters say this is similar to what caused the ‘Beast from the East’ storm in 2018.

However, Met Éireann said it was uncertain how this SSW would affect the weather in the coming weeks.
