Dublin: At a rally outside Leinster House following the annual March for Life, anti-abortion advocates called on the government to address the increasing number of abortions in Ireland.
According to the Department of Health, 10,033 abortions were recorded in 2023—an increase from 8,156 in 2022—with 2024 figures expected soon.
Pro-Life Campaign spokesperson Eilis Mulroy criticised the government’s stance, claiming it ignores alternative viewpoints, and called for immediate measures to reverse the trend.
She cited emotional and personal consequences experienced by some women post-abortion as a driving force for continued advocacy.
Following the 2018 referendum, Ireland introduced legislation allowing unrestricted access to abortion up to 12 weeks, with later terminations permitted in limited circumstances.
