Letterkenny: A 60-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the tragic explosion that claimed ten lives in Creeslough, County Donegal. The arrest was carried out by Gardaí, and the man is currently in custody at Dundalk Garda Station in the northwestern region of Ireland.
The Tragedy
The devastating incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, October 7, 2022, at the Applegreen service station and an adjacent apartment block in Creeslough. The explosion resulted in the loss of four men, three women, and three children, leaving the nation in mourning.
Among the victims were:
- Robert Garvey and his five-year-old daughter, Shauna Flanagan-Garvey
- Catherine O’Donnell and her 13-year-old son, James Monaghan
- Jessica Gallagher, a fashion student
- Martin McGill, a passionate Celtic fan
- James O’Flaherty, originally from Sydney, Australia
- Martina Martin, a shop worker
- Hughie Kelly, a carpenter
- Leona Harper, aged 14
The investigation is being led by Milford Garda Station, with support from agencies including:
- The Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation
- The Health and Safety Authority
- The Utilities Regulatory Commission
Efforts to uncover the cause and circumstances surrounding the explosion have been meticulous. Although the individual arrested appeared voluntarily, his lawyer emphasised his cooperation.
