Dublin: Gardaí have carried out extensive coordinated raids across seven counties as part of a major operation targeting the Nigeria-based criminal organisation known as Black Axe, which is linked to cyber-enabled financial fraud and other online crimes.
The searches were conducted under Operation Skeen in Kildare, Sligo, Dublin, Galway, Limerick, Kilkenny and Meath. A total of 11 properties were searched in a single day of action.
During the operation, officers seized a number of electronic devices along with clothing items believed to be of evidential value. The materials will now undergo detailed forensic examination.
Black Axe is listed by Interpol as an organised criminal group with a global footprint, operating in countries including Ireland, the United States, Canada, Spain and the Netherlands.
The coordinated searches were carried out by the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau, the Garda National Cyber Crime Bureau and local detective units.
