Dublin: Dublin Airport is preparing for a significant surge in passenger traffic over the May Bank Holiday weekend, with approximately 465,000 passengers expected to pass through its terminals between Friday and Monday.
Airport operator DAA said daily passenger numbers will exceed 110,000, with Friday to be the busiest day, handling 121,000 people. Passenger flow is expected to be evenly split between arrivals and departures, with over 232,000 passengers moving through each.
According to Graeme McQueen, the increase in traffic will include holidaymakers, business travellers and sports fans. Departures are expected to be particularly busy with passengers travelling overseas, while arrivals will welcome tens of thousands of tourists.
The surge also coincides with major sporting events, including the Leinster vs Toulon rugby match on Saturday and the ongoing Punchestown Festival, both of which are expected to attract large crowds.
Travel Advice for Passengers
Airport authorities have urged passengers to plan ahead and allow sufficient time for check-in and security procedures. Short-haul passengers are advised to arrive at least two hours before departure, while long-haul travellers should allow up to three hours.
Passengers are also reminded to carry all necessary travel documents, including passports, boarding passes and visas, before leaving for the airport.
Those requiring special assistance are encouraged to notify their airline at least 48 hours in advance. Assistance services will be available on arrival, with dedicated reception desks located in Terminal 1 departures and the Terminal 2 check-in area.
To support passengers with autism, lanyards and wristbands will be available, and staff will be on hand throughout the airport to assist with queries, including navigation, security and passport control queues.
