€2 Million Funding Boost Announced for Meals on Wheels Services

Dublin: Ireland’s Meals on Wheels network is to receive an additional €2 million in funding to address rising demand and increasing food costs. The allocation represents an increase of more than 30% on last year’s funding, bringing the total government support for the service to €8.25 million.

The funding announcement was made by Tánaiste Simon Harris and Minister of State for Older People Kieran O’Donnell during a visit to a Meals on Wheels service at St Munchin’s Community Centre in Limerick.

According to the HSE’s National Service Plan, the network is expected to deliver more than 3.3 million meals this year. There are currently 319 Meals on Wheels organisations operating nationwide, providing support to over 18,000 people each month.
