Dublin: Practical examinations for the Leaving Certificate and Junior Cycle scheduled for today have been postponed due to widespread disruption to public transport caused by ongoing fuel price protests.
The State Examinations Commission confirmed that the Leaving Certificate music and Junior Cycle home economics practical exams due to take place on Monday have been deferred. A spokesperson for the Department of Education said the decision was taken as it could not be guaranteed that students and examiners would be able to travel safely to schools.
The postponement applies only to practical exams scheduled for today, and not all schools were affected. Alternative arrangements will be made for impacted students, with further details to be communicated directly to schools. Exams scheduled for Tuesday are expected to proceed as planned, with updates to be issued if circumstances change.
Meanwhile, Bus Éireann confirmed that school transport services are set to resume. The company added that families will be notified directly if any further disruptions occur.
Citizenship Ceremonies Cancelled
Tralee: Citizenship ceremonies scheduled to take place this week have also been postponed. Events planned in Killarney—which were expected to grant Irish citizenship to approximately 4,700 people—have been cancelled.
The Department of Justice stated that the decision was made due to ongoing pressures on fuel supplies, travel, and transport services nationwide. A new date for the ceremonies will be announced in due course, and affected individuals have been notified.
Industry body Fuels for Ireland has warned that even after restrictions are lifted, it may take up to ten days for fuel supply at service stations to return to normal levels.
