Dublin: Focus Ireland is urging homeless individuals to register to vote in advance of a potential election to drive meaningful change in housing policy. Voter registration events will be held on Thursday, and those without a permanent address can use the Eircode of their primary area to register. Campaign coordinator Louise Bayliss emphasised the empowering impact of voting, especially for those most affected by the housing crisis, which saw 14,760 people in emergency accommodation last month.
Focus Ireland encourages not only those currently homeless but also anyone impacted by housing insecurity to register. The charity has also developed a website tool to help voters engage with candidates on key housing solutions, allowing individuals to prioritise candidates who support ending homelessness. Bayliss expressed optimism, stating that public concern exists but stressed the need for “real, solid change.”
