Dublin: Gardaí have confirmed that the brutal assault of an Indian man in Kilnamanagh, County Dublin on Saturday, July 13, was racially motivated. However, they have cautioned the public against engaging with unverified narratives or speculative accounts regarding the incident.
The attack occurred around 6 p.m. on Parkhill Road, where the victim, a recently arrived Indian national who had come to Ireland for work, was beaten by a group of men, stripped, and subjected to torture, leaving him with serious injuries, including facial lacerations.
Gardaí emphasised that misinformation is circulating online, including false accounts about the reasons or circumstances behind the attack. A spokesperson said:
“These claims are baseless and do not reflect the facts of the case. The assault is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime. The Garda National Diversity and Integration Unit is actively engaged and remains in contact with the victim.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and Gardaí are urging anyone who was in the Parkhill Road area between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday to come forward. Witnesses or those with relevant video footage are encouraged to contact Tallaght Garda Station at (01) 666 6000, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.
Gardaí have also reiterated a message for the broader public:
“If you feel threatened or unsafe at any time, support is available. Please don’t hesitate to contact Gardaí or access emergency services.”
Embassy Intervention and Ongoing Protests
Although no formal resolutions were reached during a recent meeting hosted by the Indian Ambassador with victims and community representatives, embassy officials stated they had made significant diplomatic representations in response to the incident. According to reports, Garda action on the case was initiated following intervention by the embassy.
The assault gained wider public attention following testimony from Irish national Jennifer Murray and the subsequent social media outcry among the Indian community in Ireland. These developments are believed to have intensified the urgency of the investigation.
Multiple Protests Organised
Several protest actions have been announced by both politically affiliated and non-affiliated groups, reflecting the widespread concern and outrage among migrant communities and the wider public.
Three separate protests are being held in Dublin over two days:
- Today at 4 p.m. outside the Department of Justice, St. Stephen’s Green
- Today at 6 p.m. in Kilnamanagh, Tallaght
- Tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Dublin city centre, organised by various community and advocacy groups
While the protests reflect deep frustration over violence against migrants, organisers have also called for peaceful and united demonstrations, urging participants to focus on justice and solidarity.
